How does a Gentle Leader or HALTI work?
A Gentle Leader is a tool that is used to deter heavy pulling. A strap is fixed around the back of the dog’s head and around the base of their muzzle, which it is then securely buckled underneath the jaw. This tool is not a muzzle as a dog is still completely capable of opening their mouth when it is on. Its job is to encourage a dog to face forward and to discourage erratic pulling. The HALTI operates in a similar fashion. It allows for more leeway in jaw motion as the buckle can be more loosely adjusted since it is accompanied by a safety line that is clipped to a collar ring. HALTIs are recommend for dogs that struggle with recall if equipment should ever fail. We use these tools to help maintain control of heavy pullers and to ease our works resistance on our bodies. The safety of dog walkers is important too! We also believe in full transparency of tool use and discuss plans and options with our clients.
Is PVPC open on holidays?
PVPC is closed on statutory holidays for dog walking and daycare. For boarding and prolonged pet visits we are open for prearranged bookings. Additional holiday charges apply with amounts depending on the service.
Does PVPC provide services for clients outside their radius?
At this time we only serve the Hamilton core, Ancaster and Stoney Creek for dog walking and pet visits. We definitely invite clients from outside our service area for daycare and boarding, yet we do not offer pick up/drop off.
